Plan your Champagne trip
Visiting Champagne houses on a Sunday
Sunday is possible in Champagne, but it rewards a little more preparation. Opening days change with the season, and smaller producers who welcome visitors informally during the week may be with their families or in the vineyard.
Use the booking calendar, not an old list
A house may open on some Sundays, close in winter or offer fewer departures than on Saturday. The date-specific calendar on the official booking page is more reliable than any general opening-hours article, including ours.
Reims gives you the best fallback plan
If a visit changes, the cathedral, city centre and several museums still make the day worthwhile. Restaurants may also fill at lunch, so reserve the table as carefully as the cellar.
In the villages, call ahead
Small growers are often flexible, but Sunday is not the moment to assume somebody will be available. A short confirmation in advance is respectful and saves a long drive to a closed gate.
What works well
- Book the exact Sunday slot before leaving home
- Reserve lunch as well as the visit
- Use the official regional directory for last-minute alternatives
