Major house or small grower?
The main difference is the scale of the visit and the way you are welcomed.
A major house usually offers a fixed tour, monumental cellars and clear time slots. A grower visit is smaller, often by appointment, and the conversation quickly turns to the vineyard and production. For a first weekend, one of each makes a good combination.
Book fewer appointments and give each visit more time.
